Greenup County is the second most populated county in eastern Kentucky. The city of Greenup is the county seat and the city of Flatwoods is the most populated city in the county. Popular attractions in the county include Bennett's Mill & Oldtown Covered Bridges, Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, Greenup County War Memorial, Jesse Stuart Nature Preserve, McConnell House, Old Fort Earthworks, & Anvil Rock. Route 23 (the Country Music Highway) runs along the eastern border of the county, serving as the primary means of travel. The northern terminus of the Industrial Parkway ends at Route 23 at Wurtland, connecting the county to Interstate 64.
