Licensing > Marriage Licenses

Marriage licenses are issued in the Courthouse office and both the bride and groom must appear together. The license is valid for 30 days from the date of issue and the license fee is non-refundable. The license can only be used within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Age Requirements
Both the bride and groom must be 18 years of age or older to be issued a license without parental consent. Applicants 16 and 17 years old must submit written parental consent and the license must be issued in the conuty of residence of the under-age applicant. If both the bride and groom are under-age and they reside in different counties, then the application must be processed in the bride's county of residence. No one under the age of 16 may be issued a license unless they are pregnant and have a District Court order directing the County Clerk to issue the license.

Procedures
There is no waiting period or blood test required prior to the issuance of a marriage license. Both bride and groom must provide the following:
-Name & address;
-Date of birth & age;
-Place of birth (if inside Kentucky, give county; if in another state, give state);
-Father's name;
-Mother's first and maiden name;
-Current marital status (e.g. Single, Divorced, Annulled, Widowed);
-Number of previous marriages;
-Occupation;
-Race;
-Description of relation of bride and groom, if any (first and second cousins cannot marry in the Commonwealth of Kentucky);
-Date of marriage.

To apply, submit the Application for Marriage License (opens in PDF) to the Greenup office of the County Clerk in person. The party must pay a $37.50 application fee.
